Ever wonder who is serving the documents you send to ABC Legal? In this blog series, we'll be shining a spotlight onto some of our star process servers and the amazing work they do.

Raised in West Knoxville, Angie Munsey, is a process server in East Tennessee. She is inspired by her husband and her children, who have succeeded far beyond what she could have hoped for. Angie has been a process server for five years. She has been with ABC Legal since 2018 and now works with multiple clients and attorneys in her area. Angie enjoys studying foreign languages. She is fluent in Spanish, which helps with her work as a process server.

Apart from her work as a process server, Angie finds joy in caring for dogs. Whether she's dog-sitting, volunteering with local rescues, or fostering dogs in need, her love for these furry companions shines through. While she loves all dog breeds, chihuahuas hold a special place in her heart.

Angie recently took time out of her busy schedule to tell us more about her life and time as a process server.

What areas do you serve?

Currently, I serve three counties in East Tennessee with over 20 ZIP Codes.

Are There Any Legal Requirements To Work As A Process Server In Your State?

There are no requirements for the state of Tennessee, but Knox County does have license and bond requirements.

How did you get started as a process server?

My husband was a process server when I met him. He would take me with him on occasion and I developed an interest and decided to give it a try.

What training and/or support have you received from ABC Legal?

I received most of my training from my husband and the online information that was available from ABC Legal at the time. He [Angie’s husband] is always one of the top rated [process servers] in the state for requirements met, and he always tries to make me better in that area.

What is your favorite part of the job?

Freedom of time to work on my own schedule. Also, meeting and interacting with people in the field and at the courts.

What is your Least favorite part of the job?

Mean people and inclement weather like rain or snow.

What safety precautions do you take to keep yourself safe?

Just try to be aware of my surroundings and leave the area as quickly as possible [if deemed unsafe]. No trespassing signs and unrestrained animals are a bad sign. Secured buildings, privacy fences, and gated yards [can make for difficult serves].

How has the industry changed since you started?

Some clients are requesting no contact by phone. This hinders the ability to make contact on the first visit. But being able to leave a number for the subject to contact me to arrange for service, reduces the need for return trips tremendously.

What is your favorite serving story?

I’ve served papers on a local radio station personality and ex-pro football player—that was interesting. In another situation, I served a person who had just committed a homicide less than two weeks prior. I returned it as a bad address because they were still in jail awaiting trial. It was re-issued to the jail address and I went to the justice center and served them.

Tell us something about you that not many people know.

I was a certified fitness instructor and bilingual tutor for Spanish.

Angie excels at successfully completing each job, effectively meeting all (customer, court, & ABC’s) requirements, and submitting completed proofs of service. Overall, Angie is a superstar process server, and ABC Legal values all the work she puts into every serve.
