Sheriff Service

With our experience, we choose to use the Sheriff when it’s the best option due to work type, area, or a dangerous situation. The good news is we manage all the details for you—so you don’t have to. 

Once your job is served, you can easily download the proof of service and invoice from your online account. You will receive email notifications, and you can also sign up for text updates. To manage your notifications, log into your online ABC account, click Admin, click the pencil Edit button on the right, and click Notifications. Here, you can set when and how you want to be notified for every step of your service. 

Our job is to get your job served, and for this instance, if it’s in the hands of the Sheriff, it’s in a good place. 

Because Sheriffs are our offline partners, they don’t provide updates that feed into our system. That said, behind the scenes, our internal experts work diligently with our sheriff contacts to ensure your job is getting served.

The use of sheriffs to serve process constitutes a very small portion of our overall operations. Specifically, we utilize sheriffs for less than 1% of our 6 million annual service attempts. We reserve sheriff involvement for cases where their unique authority is required or necessitated.

Based on our 50 years of experience, ABC chooses to use a sheriff when they are the best option for the specific type of work, the area around the country, or a dangerous situation. By volume, ABC Legal uses the sheriff less than 1% of all ABC Legal work.

ABC Legal has direct relationships with Sheriffs nationwide and has internal experts that manage the process from start to finish—so you don’t have to. When we use the Sheriff for our clients, it’s a real time-saver. You don’t have to coordinate the serve, work with the Sheriff for payment, make no calls or emails to find out when the Defendant has been served, or work to obtain your proof of service. We do that for you. Plus, you have the benefit of our website, so you have everything in one place to easily download your Proof of Service. Example: 

My order requires a statutory fee check of $40 to the NY Secretary of State at the time of service. Does ABC Legal handle this?

We handle this for you. ABC Legal manages this requirement and provides the $40 statutory fee at the time of service. Your form of payment will be charged separately for the required $40 fee + $5 for processing.
